Fighting extinction during renewal selection | April 28, 2006
Any true TV fan knows that, just as the television season is coming to a close, the networks will announce next season's fall lineups to media buyers at the "upfronts" next month (May 15-18, to be exact). What many fans don't know is which shows are already safe and which of their favorites they should be campaigning for.
Fans of Fox's "24," "Bones," "American Idol" and "The Simpsons"; CBS' "How I Met Your Mother," "Without a Trace" and "The Amazing Race"; NBC's "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office" can rest easy. Those programs, along with many others, have been picked up for another season.
But among those shows that haven't been renewed, some are in a worse position than others. Read the rest...

Earl slays me every time. I just wish I had time to keep up with all the others.

How can they consider resurrecting a show like 7th Heaven? It had a good run; let some other shows survive. I'm hoping Smallville has one and only one more season, and they know in advance so they can wrap it up properly and avoid the stupid tangents that stretched it out this long. I'm really digging Supernatural so I hope that one comes back, otherwise nothing on the WB or CW interests me. Glad to hear about Earl and HIMYM and most of all Scrubs. Those are the only (live action) sitcoms I watch right now, though the two without a laugh track may transcend the label.
I guess the better Bones does, the less likely we'll get a proper Angel tv movie. An article in Newsday's TV listings today list it as having one of the worst finales, alongside Seinfeld. While I agree about Seinfeld, I kind of liked the way Angel ended, though I definitely wanted to see more in the form of a tv movie. Amy Acker's been great on Alias though; I wouldn't mind seeing her character on a rumored Alias spinoff--have you heard anything about that? Was it just fan wishful thinking?

Glad to see some of my favorites are safe - How I Met Your Mother, Earl, and the Office. However, I am in a panic regarding Chris and Veronica Mars. How can Chris not be a sure thing? This is one of the best shows on TV! Clever and witty with just a right amount of sweetness.
And Veronica Mars? sigh.
