Crocodile Hunter killed by stingray | September 04, 2006

I used to say he was crazy, and that doing what he did would kill him, but then I started thinking Steve Irwin was invincible.

Apparently not, since he was killed by a stingray while filming today. His personal Web site announces the news, too.

I hate to be insensitive because I do appreciate that he has two young children and a wife, but it's hard to muster too much sympathy for someone who regularly, intentionally put himself into that much danger. Although the irony of him being killed by a stingray -- among the less dangerous animals he worked/played with -- is not lost on me.

I am thinking that perhaps you are being insensitive regarding Steve Irwin. Yes he was known as the Crocodile Hunter, but he did MORE than that, and was going to come to LA to rid a lake of an alligator that has been living here, that other animal wranglers could not capture. You remark sounded more of a I-told-you so than your usual quirky, quick-witted banter you usually have. Perhaps this was one occasion when your opinion should have been kept to yourself ??

I kinda got railed for admitting I giggled a little bit yesterday. Yeah, I was insensitive. Still, he did tempt fate on a fairly regular basis.

The Bear Guy was an idiot, but Steve, although he did seem nuts was more a daredevil and I believe he always respected nature. It is truly ironic his being done in by a relatively low risk creature. He was a very cool guy.

i must admit that i laughed, too, when i heard the news. (karma will get me, i'm sure.) i don't feel bad for the hunter either. no matter how great a person might be, messing with nature is always a risk.

He was messing with nature, but you are messing with people by making comments like "I laughed when I heard the news". Keep laughing -it shows people how shallow you are.

I was sad to hear he died, because I know he had those two beautiful kids who he loved so much.
