Help Slate.com save Friday Night Lights | October 12, 2006
I'm always begging for you to save a good show. This time I'll let someone else do the begging for me: Slate.com's Troy Patterson, to be exact. He loved the show and wants you to love it, too. Won't you?
He says:
Your correspondent finds himself at full grovel, crawling toward Nielsen households, begging that they flip on Friday Night Lights (NBC, Tuesdays, 8 p.m. ET). The show is terrific—the most engrossing new drama of the fall season—but it's also the worst-rated, and that's just not fair.
He also, weirdly but somehow fittingly, compares the series to Moby-Dick. And it's not too late to catch up. I promise. If you feel like you need a refresher first, though, feel free to read TWoP's recaps of the first two episodes.

I think this is my favorite new show of the season. It's just beautifully shot and directed, and the story lines show promise.
I'm rooting for this show to get an audience.
And I'm not even that big of a football fan. [/inside joke]

Do you think if enough of us beg we can get more viewers for this wonderful show? My GenX son and his wife got caught up this week and really liked it. My Baby Boomer husband and I love it and I nearly hog-tied my high school senior to get him to watch the pilot. Where are all of the Christians who complain about there being no shows that depict religion or prayer? Where's the Focus on Family folks? This show cuts across generations. It touchs every kid on the outside who didn't think he had a snowball in hell's chance for his dreams. Hopes & dreams. Challenges & failures. I love the writing and the camera work. Strong performances too. Please, please watch it.

I just watched this show for the first time on Tuesday and I really enjoyed it. I followed it up with Veronica Mars and so it ended up being ANOTHER nice and lazy night watching tv.
