The knife is officially unsheathed | October 06, 2006

So, the cancellations began today. The "official" ones, that is. I kind of believe those early pulled Fox shows ('Til Death, Justice and Happy Hour) are as good as dead, but officially, Smith got the axe. And Kidnapped was moved to Saturdays, which is a burnoff day and a sign of inevitable doom.

If you want to read a very amusing take on the cancellation drama -- which is almost as exciting as many of the shows themselves -- you can read an instant message conversation between two Entertainment Weekly writers over at the EW.com popwatch blog. It's very fun. Go now.

DeAnn - I can't agree more about Ugly Betty! The show is smart, funny, and oh-so irresistable. And it's a good change for America!

what did the TV Goddess think of the Nine?

I liked the Friday Night Lights premiere, although it seems no one else did, aside from the critics.

So, I'm curious to see how long NBC gives that show, as well as Studio 60. (And I'm going to incur the wrath of Aaron Sorkin fans here, but I'm finding it ironic that a series about a comedy show has yet to produce a skit that is, you know, funny.)

Yes, what did The Goddess think of the Nine?

And I agree with Jay, Studio 60 has yet to deliver the goods on the comedy side of things.

I am VERY disappointed about Smith, though.

P.S. Thanks for the link to Popwatch - awesome. I didn't have enough feeds on my Bloglines, anyway (enter Sarcasm, stage Left).

I purposefully tried not to pick up any new shows this season -- not that I watch a ton of TV as it is, but we can't get cable cause we're off the grid (ah, Alaska) and sometimes loving a show can thus become more trouble than its worth.

That said, I have a confession: I like "Men in Trees!" It's no secret that I was am a ferocious "Northern Exposure" lover! So I want to be clear: "MIT" is no "NE." Not even close. And a lot of it comes off like a cheaper imitation to be sure. And I'm not even an Anne Heche fan, though her "Everwood" stint redeemed her a little). But MIT is entertaining and amusing and a few of the actors in particular stand out (the guy who plays the bartender is teddy bear cute, and the relationship between the two younger characters is sweet and hysterical at times).

Anyway, I didn't want to like this show cause I am a "NE" loyalist AND because I had a feeling it would get cancelled early. The buzz was mild and it's on Friday nights. BUT, I also felt it was my duty as a loyal Alaskan to watch, and while it is by no means a societally accurate portrayal of life up here, it passes at times, and it's charming.

Now I'm just expecting it will get cancelled and I'll be smad. Darnit.

Dammit! First Justice, now Smith. I like both of these shows! Also, I am totally ok with them moving Kidnapped to Sat nights. Some nights my dvr is too overloaded and I can't record everything. There is nothing on saturday nights. So maybe this will help it's ratings... even if only in the world of TIVO and DVR.

I was enjoying 'Til Death. I just spend most nights wondering when we went from being the younger couple to being the older, wiser couple.

Hope it makes it back. Still holding out hope for Justice as well. so far though, none of my new favorites are getting the axe *knock on wood*

I've been meaning to check out Til Death. I'd heard good things, but I believe there were too many conflicts(If it airs Thursdays, I'm already watching Smallville, taping Earl and Office, then watching those during commercial breaks of Supernatural).

The only new show I officially added this season was Heroes. Heroes rules, and the cliffhangers get better each week. I hope that survives; don't really care either way with the rest.
