Bye-bye O.C. | January 04, 2007

No tears were shed (at least by me) at the news that The O.C. was canceled today (thanks to John for alerting me to this -- and for getting me to sign up for Digg, which I'm already addicted to).

I guess the only thing sad about the cancellation is that, apparently, the show couldn't survive without Marissa. Which is just ... wrong. She was the worst thing about that show. Grrr.

The title of this post really should have been, "Welcome to cancellation, bitch."

Since the announcement I have been reading the mixed reviews about Marissa. It seems to be half and half

I think you're right about the lack of sentiment. My wife watched and loved the show during its first season, watched with gradually lowering enthusiasm the second season, and didn't ever watch it this season. I'm not 100% sure if that's right- was it three seasons? Well, whatever it was, she couldn't care less that it was canceled.

Hey, what did you think of Scrubs last night? I watched it, and really loved it.

Amen, sister friend! I thought the only thing that ever came out of The OC is the fact that their "soundtracks" are good gym music. Other than that, it's a waste of celluloid.

If they "blame" its ratings dropping to Ms Barton's absence from the show, I think they need to revisit the bad script, the absence of acting and the over the top soap opera scheme. Mischa was smart enough to see the bad acting ahead of her... Maybe she learned something from her stint in Sixth Sense!

I am not kidding when I say that I just called my husband to break the news. I lost interest in the show a few years back, but HE LOVES IT so much and will mourn the loss of Seth.

(Dude, I also need to call my sister and tell her. Crap!)

I'm amazed at how fast this show went from empty-calorie superstar to mediocre-forgotten has-been. Nice to see the schedule opening up for something hopefully more, um, filling.

One can always hope.

And Mischa Barton couldn't act her way out of a Pucci bag.
