Say goodbye to The O.C., bitch! | February 22, 2007

As many of you know (thanks for asking, Isabel), tonight is the night our country collectively says goodbye to Seth, Summer, Ryan and the gang of Newport Beach on the once-addictive (but really NOT anymore) silly soap The O.C.

I loved that first season, despite the million over-the-top story lines. But then Oliver came along and shot a hole right through what could have been a beautiful teen drama.

And I think Seth, once the golden geek boy of TV (especially as Dave on Gilmore Girls, by the way), got grating as they made him "cool" instead of geeky. It happened too fast, and was unrealistic and dull.

That said, the show had the guts to kill off Marissa (Mischa Barton), which made me heart it for all of 20 seconds. And it brought us the legendary Chrismukkah, which will be an eternal part of pop culture. And "Welcome to The O.C., bitch!" will never be forgotten.

Anyway, tune in tonight if you are or ever were a fan. And read this article at Rolling Stone.

Thanks for posting about this. We suck at our house (and have a baby that won't sleep) so we didn't watch it last night. But it's on the TiVo and we'll watch it asap!!

That being said...I've been "over" the O.C. for a few years, but kept watching it because my husband loves it. And I love Seth. And Chrismukkah. And will miss them both.

I wonder what the next teen soap will be like??? Have you heard anything?

do you think this show lost interest because shows like "laguna beach" and "the real housewives of the o.c." are so popular?
