Farewell, David and Mary | March 05, 2007

So, last night's episode was the first really exceptional and suspenseful and riveting episode so far this season of The Amazing Race. Finally, this all-star edition lives up the hype (which I will admit I might have created all by myself). Even though the end result is not what I'd hoped (I know David and Mary didn't stand a chance at winning, but I would have loved to see them outlast Mirna and Charla, who are on my last never), it was a fantastic episode. Some highlights:

* Teri saying, "It was exciting falling in" after she fell off of her raft on the RAPIDS. I am really loving Teri and Ian this time, much more than I did season 3.
* People FREAKING out about touching the fish. No matter how many people acted like crazies, it never stopped being funny.
* All of Eric's "Use your boobs!" cheering, and then Rob's analysis of it later: "Not that I wasn't making comments about Amber ... They were just different types of comments."
* Danny and Oswald as they approached the mat, where Phil and a little person waited: "Charla's going to be in love!"

I am really loving almost every time. I even like ... GASP! ... Rob and Amber. Unbelievably enough. I still don't want people whose bios say "TV personality" to win the race, obviously, but with much more hateable teams like Charla and Mirna AND Dustin and Kandice (why do I have to hate both all-female teams? Why?), Rob and Amber are downright likeable. Plus, they are just not as mean as they were last time, which I like.

Here is the order I would like the remaining teams to finish, based on how much I like them:

1. Danny and Oswald
2. Teri and Ian
3. Guidos
4. Uchenna and Joyce (would be higher if they weren't returning winners)
5. Rob and Amber
6. Eric and Danielle
7. Charla and Mirna
8. Dustin and Kandice

That might not be a realistic final three, but right now we are down to such strong teams that this is really anyone's game. I think Charla and Mirna are the weak link, and anyone else could win this thing.

How much are you loving this all-star season? (Remember, if you're not watching, you're dead to me.)

Do you know what's getting me through the week between episode (other than my other shows)? I will tell you: SO many online video clips. Yay! This season they are even doing this cool Elmination Station thing where we get to see the Philimated teams hanging out in their very fancy Acalpulco resort.

Rob and Amber are to this game what card counters are to Blackjack. The thing is, I have always been on the side of the card counters! Rob and Amber doggedly pursue every advantage and play with a cleverness that seems to elude the others. Some teams have heart. Other teams possess determination. Rob and Amber have brains.

I agree, by the way, about things really beginning to pick up with this episode. This episode may not end up being a classic, but it was really good!

We had to hit the DVR's replay button for the part where Danny and Oswald run to the mat to make sure we heard it correctly. Awesome.

I thought I might have been the only person who doesn't mind the beauty queens, but the two friends I was watching with on Sunday like them, too. So there.

But this was the best episode of the season. Combined with Battlestar Galactica seemingly getting back on track after a mostly underwhelming second half of this season, it was a good Sunday night. (Although I was distracted during a lot of BSG and have to watch it again.)

i hate the guidos. all they do is talk about being old gay guys. are they trying to land a sitcom or reality show? they're boring.

every week, i hope that this will be the week that the beauty queens do something stupid and get eliminated. it was so disappointing that they couldn't check in at no. 4 because they forgot a clue, went back and got that clue, and still checked in at no. 4. booo.

I still think that they didn't do such a great job with the casting this season. I can think of three (four if Christie wasn't pregnant) teams right off the top of my head that I would rather see in the race. I think the reason I'm not getting it too much this season, is because every team was a team that I either really disliked, or was just sort of meh about. Other than the three already eliminated, that is.
