Jericho is canceled — for good this time | March 21, 2008

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler issued this statement today on Jericho:

The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale. Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts.

Sounds like you should save your nuts this time, because it's pretty certainly over.

This is really sad news for Jericho fans and for TV fans. As a Jericho fan I was glad to hear that Jericho was coming back. I heard that it may not come back for a whole season, but that it would at least come back for a few episodes to wrap it up. This week's episode was the worst episode ever and wrapped nothing up (actually it created more questions). Shoot - last years final episode, I felt, was a much better series finale than this one.

Why are endings so cut and dry? I think shows should have contigency plans for being cut or have a chance to put together one final episode to satisfy fans. If you don't, you risk losing viewers to your network, or making viewers cynical of trying new shows.

This licks. The first season of Jericho was sensational. It was a little campy through the first five or six episodes, but then it really took off and hit its stride by the season finale. This wasn't a sugar-coated look at how our country might respond after a disaster. It was real. It was anarchy.

Give CBS credit for brining it back for seven episodes. I just hope the series finale doesn't end on a damn cliffhanger.

i take back my comments! Didn't pay attention - you said March 25 episode is last. In that case I'll give em a chance. I can see how they could wrap it up nicely.

Well, I'm glad that they got another chance, even though it was brief. The episodes I have seen from this season were really good.

I thought it was getting better ratings this season! Or was that just a dream I had?
