TMZ reported, and then I blogged about the banner. Grrr.

I watch bad TV so you don't have to (and to make you laugh) | June 01, 2007

I watched BOTH Hidden Palms and Pirate Master, I'm a little ashamed to admit. And I blogged about them both. Enjoy!

You really should read about both of these, because otherwise watching them really was a waste of my time. The only solace I can take in these horrid shows is that you all might find some humor in my retellings. And then, please, please, tell me if you watched (don't be ashamed!) and if you actually liked them. I'll try not to judge!

News, views and reviews | May 25, 2007

For anyone actually online leading into the long weekend, I wrote up a random post about a little of everything TV-related: news, what to watch, what to probably not watch, people who are nuts... Read and enjoy, because that's all you're getting from me for at least a few days.

Veronica Mars canceled | May 17, 2007

Veronica Mars is over, apparently. And while this is VERY sad (especially because we lost Gilmore Girls this season, too), I think fans should also feel lucky that it lasted this long considering how underwhelming the ratings were from the very beginning. So ... what will we be watching next season?!

Gah! Grrrr. *#%&$! | May 11, 2007

Were you as annoyed/disgusted/infuriated by The Office as I was last night?

Could Fox be any more annoying? | April 26, 2007

After last night's crazy American Idol nonelimination NON-shocker and then the cancellation of Drive, my answer would have to be a resounding NOT LIKELY.

Finally ready to talk about it | April 11, 2007

So, any of you who watched the season finale (and the mess leading up to it) of Battlestar Galactica can probably feel my pain: I HATE this frakking show.

No, seriously. First there are boring episodes about trials and boxing matches (OK, I'll admit that one was surprisingly good) and whatever else they wanted to waste their extended episode run on (Bitter? Who ... ME?). And I could have even taken them killing off (or NOT killing off. Who knows?) Starbuck. BUT the capper for me was announcing those four Cylons in the final moments of the season (or five if you think that's why Starbuck is back and all pristine and knowledgeable).

I mean, OK, Chief. Whatever. Roslin's assistant? Who cares? But SAM?! SHUT UP! He was leading the resistance on Caprica and THEN on New Caprica. And the worst one is, of course, Tigh. No frakking way that guy is a Cylon. It changes everything we ever have known about both Cylons and Saul. I don't expect this show to adhere to the reality of MY life, but I do expect it to adhere to its own reality.

The only thing I can find comfort in is that maybe these final five Cylons are some sort of different thing. Maybe that's why all of the others won't talk about them or don't even know about them -- because they are some sort of renegade, human-loving, human-wannabe toasters.

So, after the episodes, I first said I wouldn't watch, but I have since calmed down and decided I can't just quit like that. I'll watch next season (even if it is in 2008!). No matter how mad this makes me, I have to see how it all plays out. That said, I'll be less committed and emotionally invested if they're going to frak with their characters like this.

Thoughts? Have you given up on the show yet, or do you think the new Cylons are the kick in the pants this show needed after many weeks of boredom (not counting Starbuck's death)?

Gah! | November 19, 2006

I think I'm too upset to say anything eloquent right now.

But I'll give it a shot: This is worse than David and Mary. And I just want to say that everyone who thinks the show might be rigged (it WAS said, at least, when a plane was held for Uchenna and Joyce in season 7 ... and I think when Chip and Kim beat Colin and Christie in season 5), you have to know that's not the case now that they sent the two favorite teams home in subsequent weeks.

Really? That show? | April 25, 2006

The CW, which is not committing to solid, family drama Everwood or riveting mystery Veronica Mars (for obvious reasons: ratings) has decided that it can't quite let 7th Heaven go, apparently.

I don't know if this is some sort of power trip on the part of CW head Dawn Ostroff (former UPN head trying to show she's smarter than former WB head), but it's annoying. And weird. And stupid. If that network makes room for 7th Heaven, and both Veronica Mars and Everwood end up canceled, I will ... cry, at least.

I would say that I would boycott the network, but what kind of goddess would I be if I ignored one network completely? I think that's the public's job anyway, where the WB and UPN are concerned, isn't it?

Oooh ... burn! (Don't worry; the CW totally deserved it.)

I hate Hurwitz! | March 29, 2006

That might be going a bit far, but I am irritated at Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz right now. What a quitter.

Thanks for asking... | March 22, 2006

In the comments to my post about The Shield (I cannot yet process or comment on that finale, FYI), Shane asks: "is there anything out there that you hate watching? shows you despise?"

Why, I thought you'd never ask. Yes, as a matter of fact, there is a great deal of TV that I hate watching and/or despise. For example:

American Idol: I know the world is in love with this show, but a conversation I had with a couple of my friends sums up how I feel about it. Friend 1: "American Idol is the worst thing ever to happen to TV." Friend 2: "Amen." Me: "Actually, I think it's the worst thing to happen to music." OK, all of you Kelly Clarkson fans, go on and yell at me, but I stand by my belief that it is the worst thing to happen to music in a long time. And it's also one of the worst things to happen to TV. Why people flock to it in droves I will never understand.

The O.C.: So we've had an overdose, a near-fatal car wreck, adultery, marrying an older man for money, death, running away from home ON A SAILBOAT, a boyfriend sleeping with mother then daughter, a gun-wielding crazy guy holed up in a hotel, fights on the beach, stripping ... Seriously, I could go on all day. It screams soap and it just began to enrage me. I don't like shock for shock's sake. I like it to be for a reason. (Did I mention the finale of The Shield? Or Battlestar Galactica's?)

Most sitcoms: Try as I might, I cannot make myself love sitcoms other than My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs (and none of those are traditional, multi-camera, laughtrack sitcoms). Yes, I watch How I Met Your Mother, but I can't stand Ted or Robin, and even Lilly-Pad and Marshmallow bug sometimes. And I thought I liked Courting Alex, but I can't make myself watch it. The New Adventures of Old Christine is OK, and so is Modern Men, but still I find myself distracted halfway through. So, yeah, sitcoms are hard for me to stomach, especially if there's a laughtrack. I really think that's what turns me off to those mentioned above.

Desperate Housewives: I know most people think Desperate Housewives is in a sophomore slump, but I would argue it hasn't changed. Of course I want to root for Felicity Huffman because I love her from her days on Sports Night, that much-less-watched-but-far-better dramedy. I lost interest and stopped watching midway through season 1. And from the person who stuck with One Tree Hill for a whole season and then some, that is DEFINITELY saying something. Especially since there supposedly was a compelling mystery. But I didn't find it compelling. The only supposedly compelling mystery that I lost interest in sooner was...

Lost: Don't hate me because I can't stomach polar bears on islands and a crazy hatch with a person in it. I should admit that after seasons of being emotionally manipulated and jerked around by J.J. Abrams on Alias, I came into this one with preconceived notions about his make-things-up-as-we-go-along style of storytelling. It works for some people. Clearly. Isn't it the No. 1 drama in the country or something? Well, it doesn't work for me. I am TRYING to catch up on it on DVD because I do write a TV column and figure I should watch something that people love. I have been trying to catch up for months, though, and I just recently returned the first disc to Netflix. So, it's slow moving.

I think that's about it, for shows I've actually sampled. Although I find Rachael Ray more annoying than I can explain. And I am no fan of procedurals, for the most part (although, we all know I liked The Evidence).

'Reunion' killer | January 18, 2006

In addition to telling us nothing new really about Arrested Development, Fox President Peter Liguori yesterday also revealed the identity of Sam's killer on Reunion. Katie asked me in the comments if I was mad like so many other fans. Honestly? Not at all. I wanted Fox to reveal the identity, because I am not delusional enough to think another network would pick up such a poorly executed mess of a show.

That said, I am more than a little disappointed that it was Sam's daughter -- in Liguori's words: "The best guess was at that particular time that it was going to be Sam's daughter that was actually the killer."

I thought it was supposed to be someone we could figure out early on. The fact that we haven't even met that character as an adult yet is pretty ridiculous. I thought it should have been one of the main suspects from the group of friends.

So, yeah, not at all mad at Liguori, but at the idiot who came up with that "resolution."

How to become my enemy | December 15, 2005

Don't just cancel (or nearly cancel) the best comedy on TV, but also cancel one of the most promising new comedies of the season. And then, if that isn't enough, you also can cancel a show that HAS to run a full season to be worth anything at all.

(And, OK, I know it's not a very good show, but the fact that we now will not find out who killed Samantha? Infuriating! And the fact that I can't stop watching the remaining episodes even though I know it's going to end up frustrating me? Ridiculous, I know, yet I cannot bring myself to cancel that Season Pass.)
